About the Association
Born from the collective spirit of a small group of STR professionals, united by our shared passion for the STR industry, and driven by a desire to influence the trajectory of STRs in our state, we’ve taken the initial steps to legally form and create this nonprofit entity as the definitive, unifying voice for the STR industry in Michigan. Our goal is to be a transformative force for STRs in our state.
We are a member-driven organization, and as we take the next steps in achieving our mission, we need your support. Whether you want to actively engage in our efforts, attend meet-ups, or simply join to stay abreast of the industry in our state, we need members and supporters like you.

We stand up for responsible short-term rentals at the state capitol and at the local level, and we provide hosts and managers resources to organize and advocate for themselves.

We provide regular updates on the latest in ordinances and laws across the state, as well as support to help you get your permits, pay taxes, and more.

Meet the Board
Kate Stoermer, President
Kate is a founding member of Mistra, leveraging nonprofit leadership experience from her 20+ year career in healthcare administration to the benefit of Michigan’s STR industry. A US Navy veteran, Kate attended Eastern Michigan University and received her MBA from Madonna University in Livonia and worked up the career ladder in healthcare administration prior to jumping into short-term rentals. Currently, Kate owns and operates her short-term rental portfolio as well as hosting a select portfolio of others in addition to serving the STR community across the US through her coaching and consulting business, The CEO Host, helping identify STR opportunities and optimize short-term rental revenue. Kate resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan with her husband and their children and adores all things Michigan.
Jen Polcyn, Treasurer
I was born/raised in Michigan. I bought my first and only so far, Short Term Rental back in 2019. I loved hosting, so I started a management business. My involvement in networking with other hosts and local advocacy for STR’s led me to co-found MiSTRA where I currently hold a board position and committee chair. I am also on the Architectural Control Committee at the Canadian Lakes POA. I love and enjoy all 4 seasons in Michigan and have a passion for traveling and seeing the world as well. Lastly, which is actually first in my life, spending time with my family and friends is at the forefront of all that I do.
Katy Bertodatto, Vice President
I moved to Traverse City in 2003 for flight school. I flew Cessnas until 2005, when I started a family and started investing in real estate. In 2012, I received my associate’s in Applied Science from NMC. In 2016, I received my degree from the University of Michigan. I gave the student commencement speech at the Big House that year. After graduating, I re-focused on real estate and wanted a more mathematical approach to commercial investment. I took a course through MIT in Commercial Real Estate Analysis and Investment and applied those principles to vacation rentals. Our focus is good service and hospitality, of course. Still, Golden Swan Management is more than that because we do extensive projections and analysis based not just on extensive market research but statistical analysis on the industry as a whole.
Carrie Drier, Board Member
Carrie Drier owns Roost North Rentals, a portfolio of nine short-term rentals in and around Traverse City, MI; RnR Hospitality, a full-service property management company serving STR property owners; and The Trunkline, a soon-to-be roadside resort & event venue in Northport, MI.
