March marks the one-year anniversary of MiSTRA, and with it, a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come—and where we’re headed.
This past month, our Board gathered in person for the first time, bringing together a diverse group of industry advocates, business owners, and STR leaders from across Michigan. What started as a grassroots effort has grown into a statewide movement with a clear mission: to ensure short-term rentals thrive as an integral part of Michigan’s economy, communities, and tourism landscape.
What We’ve Accomplished
In just one year, MiSTRA has laid the foundation for a unified voice in Michigan’s short-term rental industry. We’ve connected property owners, managers, and industry stakeholders, engaged in critical policy conversations, and begun building the resources and support systems STR operators need to succeed.
Where We’re Going
At our inaugural strategic retreat, we charted a bold course for the future. By 2030, MiSTRA won’t just be participating in the conversation—we’ll be leading the agenda.
✨ Strengthening Michigan’s STR industry through education, advocacy, and data-driven insights.
✨ Shaping smart policy at the state and local levels to protect property rights, promote responsible hosting, and support thriving communities.
✨ Building a powerful network of STR operators and stakeholders—one that collaborates, shares knowledge, and lifts each other up.
✨ Demonstrating the positive impact of STRs in Michigan’s communities and economy.
The groundwork is set, the momentum is building, and 2025 is the year we take MiSTRA to the next level.
2025: Quarter 1 Down, Three to Go
This year is already shaping up to be one of the most pivotal for Michigan’s STR industry. Legislative challenges are on the horizon, myths and realities continue to collide, and conversations about property rights, balanced communities, and the role of STRs are heating up across the state. Now, more than ever, STR stakeholders need to be engaged, informed, and ready to take action.
